Fun Tech Gift Ideas

We’ve all been there. One last gift to get and you’re completely stumped as to what to get that last person. Here are a few ideas that may help you complete that shopping list.

Lenovo Mini Keyboard – This is probably the coolest device I have owned. The mini keyboard is a wireless device that plugs into any USB device and allows you to operate your computer from the comfort of your sofa. The device is a mouse and keyboard all in one small device. This is a great gift for just under $60. Click Here to purchase online.

Western Digital WD Elements SE 1TB Portable Hard Drive – Target has this Hard Drive on sale for just under $70 on Black Friday. Otherwise this drive is typically around $120. I purchased the 500 GB one last year on Black friday for the same price and it works great and they had lots in stock. I would highly recommend this one to anyone who has a need for additional storage.

iPod Touch – Hands down, the iPod Touch is probably the best MP3 player out there. The Touch does just about everything you would want and more. You can surf the Internet (if connected to Wireless Internet), listen to music, watch movies, watch Netflix movies (subscription required), play games, etc. Starting at just under $200 for the 8GB version it is a relatively inexpensive gadget that does so much. Target and Wal-Mart seem to have the best Black Friday deals but you may need to get up early to get those deals.

32GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive – Everybody has data they want to carry with them wherever they go. A USB flash drive is an excellent option for that on the go person on your list. At $38 with free shipping Patriot Xporter Dash 32GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive you can’t go wrong with the Patriot 32GB USB flash drive. Click Here to purchase online.

Slingbox Solo Sling Media – The Slingbox is a really cool device that allows you to stream your home TV to the Internet which allows you to watch the same TV you get at home on your cell phone and other devices. All you need is the Slingbox and an Internet connection at home and you’re ready to go. Starting at $180 this will get any of your gadget minded friends and family excited. Flip UltraHD Video Camera – Over the last couple of years the Flip Video devices have become very popular and have gotten much better for video quality. This model allows for HD quality recording at a very affordable price. With an 8GB flash memory card it allows for longer recording times. Starting at $180 this is a great buy for an inexpensive video camera. Click Here to purchase online.

Flat Screen TV Wall Mount – This is the time of year many people are purchasing new TV’s. Maybe that person on your list just got a brand new 55″ LED tv and they are in the market for a wall mount so they don’t have to have their new tv sitting on a space hog of a tv table. Go to Monoprice.com and find tv wall mounts for 1/3 to 1/4 the price of your retail outlets. The quality of mount is just as good, if not better, than some of the more expensive ones. Click Here to find the right mount for your TV. (Make sure you match the right mount to your TV, ensure the mount can hold the weight).

Lexar 8GB SD Flash Memory Card – Target has an 8GB SD Flash Memory card on sale on Black Friday for $14.99. Not a bad deal for that special someone who loves taking pictures with their digital camera. This item won’t likely be one you need to get up at 4am for but if you’re in the area and have someone who might like it, pick one or two up.

HP Netbook Computer – The HP Netbook that SAMs Club has on sale for $228 on Black Friday is a steal of a deal. It has a 10.1″ LED display with a 250GB hard drive. The one downside to this laptop is the low 1GB RAM but that can easily be upgraded to 2GB for another $50-$70 from a 3rd party. If you’re in the market for a netbook, see if you can pick this one up, but you may need to get up early for this one.

Netflix Subscription – For the person that has everything, consider giving them something to do with all their devices. If they don’t already have a Netflix subscription, considering giving them one. It’s really easy to do and once they try it, they’ll be hooked. Click Here to find out how to give Netflix as a gift.

There are, of course, many other options for techie gifts you can give your friends and family. Hopefully these few ideas help you out this shopping season. My advice when buying something for a gadget minded person is to consider whether they will really use it. Don’t just get something because it is the buzz item of the season. Right now e-readers are all the craze, but be smart. An e-reader might not be what your recipient wants.

Good luck and happy shopping.
