I am an IT Systems Engineer with 10+ years experience administering numerous Microsoft systems and applications such as Active Directory, Exchange, Windows Server, SharePoint, Team Foundation Server, Project Server, etc. I am currently the technical lead on a SharePoint 2010 Foundation and SharePoint Server 2013 Standard/Enterprise deployment at a major medical provider. Our user base is currently 17,000+ and will expand to roughly 50,000-60,000.

I have a passion for Technology, but not just gadgets. My passion is towards the users of technology. My goal is to give users of the products I support the ability to be self-sufficient so they can become the most effective and efficient user they can be. I believe technology is most effective when used to solve specific business needs, not deployed for the sake of being deployed. I subscribe to the idea of teaching users to fish so they do not need to request support as often.

Comments made here may be due to discussions or experiences I have recently had. My posts are strictly my own and do not represent the opinions of my employer. I am a very opinionated individual and often express those opinions very passionately.

Technology is certainly not my only interest. I enjoy many non-nerd things and some only slightly nerdy things. I enjoy Science Fiction and Fantasy books and movies (nerdy). I also enjoy playing hockey in an old man hockey league. I am an avid runner and to date I’ve run 8 half marathons and 1 full marathon.

The goal of this blog is to post technical posts that fill a void that I see missing on the net. This means there may be few posts as there is often many posts already regarding a certain topic, though I still run into topics/issues that need to be discussed or clarified based on my experiences. I also hope to share some of my interests and opinions outside of technology such as book and movie reviews.

    • Thanks for stopping by. That discussion is getting exhausting so I think I’ll have to stop for a while ;-). I don’t write about those topics on my blog, but I appreciate the interest you’ve shown in what I do write about. I gotta catch a bus home now, but I’ll be sure to check out your blog tonight.

  2. Thanks for stopping by my blog and liking a post. I am an old guy who lives with tech and loves some of it, but I have difficulty with new systems all the time. Nice to know that someone like you is around to make life easier for us guys who are too old to be nerds.

    • Hey Tony. Technology is great, except when it doesn’t work. I work with people of all ages who have a difficult time with it, and there are plenty of technologies I have no clue about. Cars being one. I used to know how to rebuild and engine, but now, I wouldn’t know the first thing about these newer cars. Such is life I guess. If you have tech questions, feel free to post a comment, I don’t post a lot of tech stuff anymore, but only because I try to post stuff I don’t already see on the Internet. I got myself down to 165 pounds when I started the blog (5+ years ago). Since then I have melted away another 10 to 15 pounds and not gained in the past five years.

      • I was perusing your blog this morning and saw some of it. Yeah, I’ve gone up and down in weight and am currently at the down point, which is nice. The maintenance portion has always been tough for me, but I think I’ve got a better plan this time. The first time I didn’t have kids, when the kids came, all bets were off. Now I know better. I think. 🙂

      • I think it is all about your mental focus. Forget losing weight, literally. Just tell yourself that you want to life a healthy life. You are going to eat intelligently – both quantity and quality of food. Also, commit to exercise, as close to daily as possible. You will see the pounds melt away. Get ‘portion control’ clear in your head. That was a key for me.
