Action Figure Hunt Stranger Things Funko Chase | Episode 27

Went on an action figure toy hunt for some Stranger Things Funko action figures hoping for the Demogorgon chase, but I got a different chase I wasn’t expecting. Got some Muppets action and a tiny TMNT purchase too.

Toy Review: Funko Five Nights at Freddy’s | Freddy

Today’s review is the Funko Five Nights at Freddy’s Freddy Action Figure. This series of 5 action figures is based on the apparently popular video game series of the same name. I have not played the games, nor have I read the novel that also was released, though I’m considering buying the game and book just because I’m really intrigued. This figure, however, is terrible. Before you get too far into this review, I want you to know my recommendation on this figure. DO NOT BUY these figures!!!

Articulation –

This figure, as you can see, is not impressive to me by any measure. I’m going to do my best to explain why it’s horrible, but I think you can understand just how bad this figure is simply by understanding that the articulation on this figure essentially doesn’t provide any range of motion and then they fall apart.

Total POA’s = 11

  • Arms – There are 3 joints per arm.
    • Shoulders: Ball Joint that barely allows for any outward motion, try too hard and the arm will fall off. Almost full rotation of the shoulder, but again, the arm will fall off.
    • Elbow: Ball Joint that provides almost 90 degree bend and some forearm rotation, but again, be careful, this joint will pop off very easily.
    • Wrist: Peg Joint that is actually nice. It rotates well and is relatively tight.
  • Legs – There are 2 joints in each leg/hip/ankle area.
    • Hips: T-Jointed Ball Joint that pops off extremely easily. There is pretty much no forward kick. Backward kick is a tiny bit better, but still useless. Freddy can do about a 1/2 split, but good luck balancing him because his ankles don’t move and the legs will probably fall off.
    • Knees: Ball Joint that allows for about 30 degrees of bend and you can rotate the shin, but not sure why you would since the rest of the articulation is garbage and there is no ankle articulation.
  • Head: There is a Double Ball Joint that allows for full rotation of the head which is the only good part of the articulation and it is very loose. There’s just a tiny amount of up and down motion. The tilt is ok. Just ok, not enough to really warrant this figure getting even one star.

The articulation on this figure is just utter garbage. They would have been better off making this figure a statue.

Mold – ★★

The sculpt work is actually what attracted me to this figure, and I still like it. After pulling the figure out of the packaging, however, I’ve discovered that the sculpt of this figure plays so many parts in the atrocious articulation that I couldn’t give the figure the 4 stars I wanted to originally. This figure probably should have only gotten 2 stars but after much deliberation, I’ve decided to keep the figure as he’ll look nice on the shelf, I just can’t pose him doing anything… at all… ever.

There are some positives to the figure. I really love the look. he seems to capture that look of an animatronic bear really well. He’s really creepy looking and I appreciate the attention to detail on the face/head sculpt. The face is sculpted really well, as are all the arms and torso. I like the look, but I include the joint style choice as a sculpt choice because they could have gotten the same look with the same joints Figma uses which are a Ball Hinge with peg joints on either end. Instead they used these crappy ball joints with sockets that are simply not deep enough to hold the joint in place.

I do have to admit, the ability for the figure to fall completely apart after barely trying to move a leg is very comical and does actually lend itself to an interest photo op, of a bear that has been completely obliterated.

Paint – ★★★

The paint apps are complicated, but they didn’t need to be, and I didn’t strip the 2 stars away for the paint scheme. I really liked it, namely the face. They eyes are very well painted and the sculpted eyebrows are actually painted clean. The issue I have is with the quality control. There are weird paint spots on the figure that make it look like it’s just been sitting in a toy bin for 10 years. There are also paint scratches or something and missing paint that just tell me the paint job wasn’t that good and I better be careful with this figure.

Accessories – ★★★

We get a microphone with Freddy that is nice enough. The sculpt is good, it looks like a microphone and the paint is relatively clean, though there’s no shading or anything. It’s just a so-so accessory.

Packaging – ★★★★☆

The packaging is a fairly compact blister style carded package that looks pretty nice. You have a mostly full view of the figure and it’s pretty well protected. I especially like the pictures of all 5 characters plus the complete BAF figure on the back card. Normally I don’t give this type of packaging high ratings because I hate having to destroy the packaging just to get in, but, I’m ok with it this time.

Overall Rating – ★★

I’m taking some liberties in my overall rating and the rounding. Technically, Freddy scored a 2.6 average. I cannot round this up. I love articulation, which is why I collect action figures and not statues. The articulation is terrible on this figure and I can only imagine it’s this bad on the entire series of figures. Funko really did a bad job on this figure. I was originally going to try collecting all 5 plus the BAF, now, if I don’t return this figure, I’m still not going to get any more of them and I’m seriously considering whether Funko will ever get my money for anything else. Do yourself a favor and pass on this figure.
